The new UI is TERRIBLE. From a look and feel, it's pretty. Good job there. However, the interface clearly shows how HULU has completely lost touch with how watchers consume content.

Hulu - if you're listening -- QUEUE WORKED. It allowed us to select the shows we wanted to watch and have precise control over the episodes we'd seen and not seen. All in one simple to use place.

WATCH LIST screwed everything up. By nesting shows into Watch List > Show > Season > Episode, you forced users to have to dig to find new episodes, and made the process of keeping up completely convoluted by disallowing us to manage content from an episode level. (Example -- If you'd seen an episode of something somewhere else, there was no way to marked that episode as "watched" on hulu other than to load it up and fastfoward to the end). Seriously?

And now.... Web client still uses watch list... okay it still sucks compared to Queue.... but now you've diverged in the mobile app to something called MY STUFF, subdividing our content even further by splitting up content by type (TV versus Movie etc.), but then jammed in a "DETAILS PAGE" with multiple tabs? Where is my easy place to simply go through the new episodes I want to keep up with? Is it that b@stard of a scrolling list with massive tiles with only two shows (at the show level) visible at a time, with incorrect tracking of where I actually have watched up to?

Hulu - if you're listening -- you've REALLY REALLY screwed things up here. Your customers -- the ones that pay you to consume this content, and the ones who watch ads so that you can earn money from those who don't -- we want to easily keep up with the shows we want, and step by step you're making that harder for us.

The fix is simple. GIVE US QUEUE BACK. A single place where we can see all the shows and movies at a flat level where we can quickly identify and start playing the episodes/movies we have told you we want to watch/keep up with.

It's SO BASIC -- and you've screwed it all up.

I find the "Lineup" list annoying and full of programs I don't want to watch. When I start the application I would much rather see a list of NEW episodes from My List, then unplayed episodes from My List. One browsable category should be Recommended For You and do away with Lineup.
I work for a company that develops user interfaces for cable and satellite set top boxes and I used the original Apple OSX Hulu desktop app (2009) as an example of how to display Video on Demand effectively. I certainly would not use this new interface as an example of how to develop an effective user interface for Video on Demand.

The new layout is horrible! It's almost impossible to navigate on XBOX One. I'm really considering deleting my account now. I found the daily show somewhere else and there are only 1 or 2 shows that I watch on Hulu now. If those go away, so will my Hulu account. The new layout doesn't let me see all the episodes zoomed out like before and I have to search show by show. I cannot tell if there is a new episode or not! Also, with the new layout, when I click on a show it just starts playing instead of going to the episodes. It is so difficult to navigate. I hate it and I'm considering deleting my account now.

Oh my God change it back please!!!! This is the worst "upgrade" EVER!! I hate everything about it! I'm forced to scroll one at a time instead of the nice overview of selections there were before, there's way too many selection places at the top between the regular bar of options and then the secondary bar above that - terrible! Less is more people! Not at all user friendly. It doesn't notify me of new episodes anymore and it's hard to read under the foggy titles. I get you were trying to make it prettier, but pretty isn't what we care about. You tried way too hard and in doing so have ruined the entire experience. It was perfect the way it was. When I fast foreword or rewind I can't see a snippet preview of where I'm forewarding or rewinding to anymore either. Please please please change it back!!! This was a terrible idea and you should fire the designer. I hate this soooo much. You can't even go back up to the search bar without scrolling back up though every individual title listed!! I hate it!!! It was so much easier to quickly navigate before, and browsing was easier with more options and it was easier to search for a title too. This is awful!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's all boycott the new Hulu and cancel next month if we aren't given the option to revert to the last version!! I was just telling some friends of mine how great the no commercials package is and they actually wanted to get Hulu after that - fat chance now! You're going to lose most of your customers Hulu. The old version was already better than Netflix and Amazon video, I know, I have them all and Hulu is the one I watched the most. You were competing when you had already won and it's set you back completely now.

The new app is an absolutely horrible experience. Poorly organized and confusing. Should have to scroll through numerous screens to select a show. The autoplay is much too fast. No pause at all when one show ends. Next show plays immediately without even giving the user a chance to decide if they want to watch the next show. There apparently is no way to get to settings to turn this feature off. It is a very bad experience to take control away from the user. I don't know what Hulu was thinking with this unnecessary redesign. It's so bad I don't even want to use it. And if that's the case there is no reason for me to keep paying for the service. I suggest you fix it, bring back the pr,envious interface, or lose customers.

OK, let's start from the beginning...

The principle users of the Hulu App on Apple TV in my house are children. Young children. The beauty of the Hulu App was that it was ridiculously simple for my kids to navigate and see, especially with the easy (and immediate) presentation of the shows they recently watched front and center. The graphics were large and easily understood.

The new UI is, literally, the opposite of this. The large splash graphic, text based show lineup, counter-intuitive scrolling, and (by comparison) absolutely tiny area navigation (home, my shows, etc).

It is, to be absolutely blunt, a magnificent step in the WRONG direction.

This UI makes navigation significantly more complex. You may be able to find something faster if you are a tech and design savvy adult, but if you're not, the entire experience has become significantly more complicated.

To put it in even more blunt terms: it made my 9 year old, who only wanted to watch his show, actually put the remote down and go read a book. Perhaps I should be thanking you for this, but it does illustrate the point beautifully. The new UI made the prime TV watcher in the house not want to watch TV.

More reading is good for me, but bad for you.

And, to make it worse, it makes me not want to watch TV, either. I don't want to have to squint and work to find my regular weekly shows. I just want to turn the damn thing on and veg out for an hour.

This new UI is, truly, an utter disgrace. Needlessly complex, over designed, and excruciating to use. You should roll it back - quickly.

P.S. Great job having the splash graphic on the home page, the one my young children are first to see when activating the app, focus on the Handmaid's Tale with the word "HARLOT" in large letters smack in the middle. Because nothing says "win" as much as when your young daughter turns to you and asks "Daddy, what's a harlot?"

Stop making this stuff so complicated. Sorry you spent money on a bad design - just switch it back and we'll all be OK.

GOOD - A few years ago Hulu offered the QUE - an easy user friendly way to organize and watch the shows you saved.
CONFUSING - Then came the WATCHLIST - which randomly dropped shows you saved and replaced them with shows Hulu thought you should watch based on your viewing history. Guess Hulu thought viewers not smart enough to make own choices.
USELESS - Now we get MYSTUFF which replaces the watchlist and at the same time does not remember which episodes of any shows we have watched. And at the same time can't determine which episodes are new. And the Expiring List only has random expiring episodes, but not all of them from all your shows, so now users need to get a pen and paper and make lists of which shows they have watched, keep track of where they left off and regularly go in and click on each show they watch to see if it has a new or expiring episode?

An IDEA - Ask your users what they want to see in an app then - Build app - Test App - Release App

This app update is horrible. This update clearly didn't come from anyone who uses the app.

If you are not using your own product, you don't know how it's changes are going to affect your users. You should have at least beta tested it with users who knew what they were getting into and LISTENED to their ideas and complaints before releasing it.

I'm sure I'll miss a few things, but I'm covering more than most people:

1) This app says BETA. I didn't sign up for any beta. What's up with that??
2) The now playing bar is frequently showing a different show than what I am watching
3) It now auto-plays shows I have never seen and don't care to watch. It used to play things I actually watched. (It feels like the app got real dumb overnight)
4) It used to auto-play new episodes of shows I watch after my current show ends so I can see everything without having to interrupt it. I am now having to interrupt it after every single show because the app pulls random shows out of dark corners now.
5) After watching the last show of a series, it puts the pilot of that show at the top of "My Stuff". NO. THIS IS NOT WHAT WE WANT. We do not want to see this show again unless we go looking for it or a new episode comes out. This is what the old app did, it feels like you AI lost all of it's intelligence it's been gathering with this new update. You guys just trashed tons of good information.
6) That new background gradient is an eye sore. And it's on the big screen and the app. It's horrible. If you are going to keep it, let us change it. Otherwise, get something that's not so ugly, in your face and out of place. We are here to watch TV shows, the ugly new gradient takes away from the content of the app. BRING THE GREEN BACK. It was a single color, it wasn't hideous and IT WASN'T A GRADIENT. And on top of everything, it's not even a subtle color.
7) While we're on colors, the menu bar at the bottom.. UGLY. And not your colors. Where did this new horrible color scheme come from? MAKE IT GREEN. GREEN IS YOUR COLOR
8) The small fonts on the TV screen. You can make them a little bigger.. It's a TV, it's not small.

I don't know who headed up this new design, but they definitely shouldn't be involved in the fixes. They made some serious mistakes and bad judgement calls and we want the old guy back. We all logged on to try to watch a little bit of TV as we have been and instead we are greeted with a login screen, a request to import our watchlist with no reason as to why and after all that, we have to re-setup all the interests and even then cannot find the shows we were wanting to watch. So disappointing. I GAVE UP TRYING TO USE THE APP last night. I opened up Netflix and it was the same as it always was, all my shows in the right places and I opened it and was able to watch something that interested me. I only opened Hulu tonight to try to figure out something new that wasn't broken and to let you know everything I found wrong with the app in just a few hours. I don't understand how after I'm sure months of coding that you guys figured out less than I did in just a couple hours. You guys can't be using your own product or you would be equally as frustrated.

THE LEAST YOU COULD HAVE DONE IS TEST THIS WITH WILLING PARTICIPANTS instead of customers paying full price and expecting a certain kind of experience. Even as I write this, it's again playing shows I never want to watch, will never watch and have never shown any interest in. You cannot have people build profiles, give them a certain expected experience and then change it all and remove all the personalizing they have done. You're going to kill off your user base like some other high profile tech companies I know. You guys have got to test these things and use your own app if you expect to have a decent product. If you guys don't fix this, someone else will be happy to come in and take your place.

I sure hope you listen to your customers before #DeleteHulu becomes a thing.

So you updated my AppleTV last night with your new app. Up until now, our Hulu experience had been acceptable from a user standpoint, on par with any other streaming service as far as menu acclimation was concerned.

We've never had an issue with the performance of our stream, with up to 5 AppleTV's streaming from some service or another, or from our home 6tb NAS.

As of the first impression, at Noon, 3 May 2017, the remote interface with the new menu is unusable. As much as a 2 second lag between selections on the screen, menu to menu, item to item, or guide to guide.

Our Apple TV surface sensitivity is already set to slow, and it can't go any slower.

Using Hulu, the remote sensitivity randomly goes from insane (one swipe goes 3-4 selections past) or lethargic (1 swipe takes 2 seconds to register).

This isn't an artifact of our specific unit, as there are 5 AppleTV 's in the house, in various location. This by the way, severely inhibits our desire to continue Hulu since you limit the stream within my house to one stream. Who on the market is still doing this? No one but Hulu.

We've tested the menu on all sets, same issue, whether the remote is a foot from the unit or 20 feet away.

This is obviously a software issue, or perhaps a cache issue within your app.

We're a 10 year Netflix subsciber, a 22 year DirecTV Sat subscriber that cut the cord and selected Playstation Vue ( oh yeah, 5 streams). We opted to try Hulu as an add on to our TV experience, and when there was a hint you may have a Live TV service, we requested an invite to your Hulu Live TV Beta test, didn't get selected for whatever reason.

All that said, the new "Hulu" isn't ready for prime time. Not having an opportunity to try the Live TV side of your service, which according to all data you've released on the web, is the same interface as what you've installed on our AppleTV's this morning, the odds of us becoming Hulu ONLY subscribers is at this point based on our experience, about 30 to 1.

Five users, 3 college aged, preparing to move this summer, all using, testing and oh yeah, telling the other 300-500 students they know what their experiences with Hulu have been. The mom and dad? Oh yeah, we stayed loyal for 22 years to our last provider.

Hulu's young executive team needs to take a long hard look at their redesign, their desire to redesign, and their ultimate goal in the market place. Perhaps a bit more experience and less dreaming at the helm of the company may actually yield a more loyal customer base. Just read this forum to see the people saying they are leaving for valid reasons (Hu? Really? How about Short Attention Span ADHDTV?)

As other companies have come to realize that the marketplace is not made up of a single demographic, and obviously those that are 29 will be 49 at some point, perhaps the Japanese "Sensei" applies here...also, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Take this with a grain of salt, or a forewarning of reaction to your product by the "masses". I should have entitled this post "How Microsoft lost a customer of 37 years by trying to be new for the sake of being new and gave Apple a customer base of 27 devices in one household..."

In the last update we lost favorites. In this newest update we lost the terrible replacement for favorites, watch list. It's simple we don't care what you do with the look. Just allow us to pop on click a tab and see any new episodes of the choices WE make. Give us back our DVR like tab. When we want to browse we will browse, don't force it.

I for one am a long time subscriber, but I won't be for much longer. Not a threat just a fact. I don't have time playing around searching when it's an easy fix. Just give us back what we already had.

I hope whoever sat in a meeting and approved this new app finds a pink slip in the mail very soon. Hulu managed to make an app that removed every feature that people want in a TV streaming app and remove all of them simultaneously. No longer can you tell which shows have new episodes and which shows don't. No longer can you easily scroll through thumbnails of shows to find the one you want to see quickly. Now you must scroll through oversized, difficult to read text. Once you have found the name of the show (assuming you know the name and weren't hoping to just recognize the characters) you click it hoping the touch remote does not accidentally move to any of the other useless menus Hulu added. When the show finally finishes and you are condemned to the hell that is hulus menu, the next episode automatically starts. Because no one in their right mind falls asleep watching tv. We all want a play through of all the seasons in one night while we sleep. Instead of all the intuitive and easy to use features the Hulu app used to have they replaced it with a mangled artsy mess of an app. If it is not fixed or reverted back to an actual useful app soon I will be deleting my Hulu account. This is just pure garbage.

You need to change the layout back. I am all for continual improvement, but the way it was handled was truly disrespectful to your paying consumers. Autoplay should not be forced upon viewers, especially for programs that are not even in their watchlist. While speaking about the watchlist, the new setup for the "watchlist" is horrible. I hope you all really take these comments seriously and revamp the app on streaming devices like the Apple TV because there are a lot of other options for streaming services that are a lot easier to use and actually value their user's opinions.

If you all remain "committed" to forcing this wasteful, counterintuitive, problematic update onto all users, then you should at least offer a way for those who choose to revert back to the old layout and interface.
